Beth Eschbach has been painting almost 20 years. Starting in watercolor, then acrylic,

and now oil, she enjoys painting portraits and figures, landscapes, and still life. She has

won numerous awards in local and regional shows. Exploring color properties has been

a personal interest as she continues her studies. She has a passion to share her

knowledge with other artists.

Workshop: The Value of Color

We will mix a harmonious full color palette using three colors and white. Then we will

learn to assign a value to a color and paint nine values of that color. You will be able to

mix color quickly and confidently. We will paint a simple still life using what we’ve

learned about seeing and mixing color as well as discuss the many properties of color.

All levels are welcome. Cost is $55, including canvas, grey scale and value viewer.

Materials

I will supply:

Canvas

Grey scale

Still life setup

Students bring:

Paint colors: Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Ultramarine Blue, White

I will use oil, but you can also use acrylic

Brushes: Flat brushes, one should be about 1/2’ wide, and other sizes

Palette knife for mixing: mine is about 2” long

Paint palette, paper palettes are ok, grey is best

Gamsol in container for oils or water container for acrylics

Pencil or charcoal pencil

Portable easel

Paper towels

Box to carry home wet work. We will use 8x10 canvas
